Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki will supervise ongoing activities for the game. A private beta of Shenmue Online will roll out in Korea in November. An open beta and the game's commercial launch will take place next spring. The Shenmue franchise was established with the release of Shenmue in 1999 and Shenmue II in 2001. Both titles were developed for Dreamcast. Shenmue Online is a massively multiplayer role-playing game in which tens of thousands of players will participate in the virtual world of Shenmue (which is staged in China). Players will use mysterious powers and kung-fu as well as Chinese weapons and Qigong in real-time fights.
