Perbincangan Verb Tenses

Recommended Posts

Salam.
Rasanya tak sesuai kalau topik ini dimasukkan di dalam forum;

(past ... now .... future)
Dengan kata lain masa kita bercakap sesuatu perkara itu sedang berlaku.

(Expresses an activity that is in progress (is occurring, is happening) right now.
The event is in progress at the time the speaker is saying the sentence.
The event began in the past, is in progress now, and will probably continue into the future.)

Contoh ayat 'present progressive tense':

Positive/Statement;
He is reading a grammar book.
They are looking at me.
I am writing a letter of recommendation.

Negative;
He isn't reading a grammar book.
They aren't looking at me.
I am not writing a letter of recommendation.

Question;
Is he reading a grammar book?
Are they looking at me?
Am I writing a letter of recommendation?

Short Answer:
Yes, he is. or No, he isn't.
Yes, they are. or No, they aren't.
Yes, you are. or No, you aren't. Edited by PowerRootTongkatAli2011

Past Progressive Tense

Untuk menyatakan suatu aktiviti yang sedang berlaku pada masa tertentu yang lepas atau pada masa aktiviti lain berlaku.

Expresses an activity that was in progress (was occurring, was happening) at a point of time in the past or at the time of another
action.

Ahmad memulakan makan malam pada jam 8.00 mlm.
Sedang Ahmad makan, kawannya Ali datang pada pukul 8.15 mlm.

Ahmad was eating dinner when Ali came.
We were eating dinner when our parents came.

Kita menggunakan past progressive untuk memperkatakan suatu aktiviti yang sedang berlaku pada masa lepas manakala present progressive digunakan untuk suatu aktiviti yang berlaku sekarang (right now).

Positive/Statement;
Maya was cleaning the board when our teacher opened the door.
When our teacher opened the door, Maya was cleaning the board.
While Maya was cleaning the board, our teacher opened the door.

Negative;
Ahmad wasn't cleaning the board when our teacher opened the door.
We weren't cleaning the board when our teacher opened the door.

Question;
Was Maya cleaning the board?
Were we cleaning the board?

Short Answer;
Yes, she was.
No, we weren't. Edited by PowerRootTongkatAli2011

mungkin orang keliru, tukar 6 PM ke 8 PM

Apakah perbezaan antara dua ayat berikut;

1. Last night at 8 PM, I ate dinner. (past tense)
2. Last night at 8 PM, I was eating dinner. (past progressive)

Ayat 1 menunjukkan makan malam bermula jam 8 PM manakala
ayat 2 menunjukkan pada jam 8 PM sedang makan malam. Bermula makan malam adalah lebih awal.

Simple Present Tense

Ayat2 'simple present tense' digunakan untuk menunjukkan kekerapan aktiviti itu berlaku.
Biasanya mengandungi adverbs of frequency seperti always, sometimes, never dll.

Contoh:
1. I always drink a cup of tea after lunch.
2. She sometimes washes the clothes at early morning.
3. They never visit their grandfather. Edited by PowerRootTongkatAli2011
